1. Purpose of the Event

English education in Taiwan has been carried out from a very early stage, but due to the difference in urban and rural development, the teaching resources are divvied up unevenly. And the lack of application environment has led to the dilemma of the gap between industry and school. The rise of online English learning platforms has given students who are interested in learning English a place to work hard. And with the development of digitization, the market of E-learning has grown rapidly and has become a very cutthroat business.

In view of the deficiencies in the effectiveness of English teaching, the new Flipped Learning model enables students to use online English learning platforms to learn "survival" English in their own city. In addition to acquiring survival English and performing creative tasks, there will be increased interactions between teachers and students, as well as the digital learning platform. It will strengthen the continuity of learning, and also achieve the goal of learning transfer through practice. It is expected to help students develop adaptively and also find the most suitable English learning method through a variety of practical listening, speaking, reading, and writing courses.

3. Selection process

After completing the English learning theme courses, learners can enter to compete in four projects [Illustrated Audiobook, Illustrated Picture Dictionary, Dialogue Video, and Video Voice-Over] on the platform. The reviewers will select from the submitted projects and the winners will be rewarded.

The projects selected and revised according to the reviewers' opinions will be selected as English Smart City projects and shared with English learners around the world through the platform.

4. Entry Qualifications and Groups

  1. Qualifications for registration:National public and private primary and secondary schools, high school vocational (including colleges and universities) and above students.
  2. Registration group:Divided into two groups: 1. Primary and secondary schools. 2. High school, vocational, colleges and universities and above. You can register as a person or a group. For group registration, please register by group lead’s account.
  3. Submission categories:There are four categories in total: Illustrated Audiobook, Illustrated Picture Dictionary, Dialogue Video, and Video Voice-Over. Each participating account is limited to 2 categories for registration and submission.
  4. Registration method:Only online registration to the event website is acceptable.

6. Project Specifications and Content Description

  • Illustrated Audiobook
    1. How to participate in the Illustrated Audiobook project:On the Task assigned by teacher, upload your Illustrated Audiobook project based on what you have learned, and then register for the Selection of Projects.
    2. Specifications of project:The content must be an original work of storytelling and be written in English.
      1. Number of pages:at least 6 pages and at most 10 pages.
      2. Number of words per page:up to 50 words.
      3. Photos or drawings taken by yourself must be used. If you use pictures, you need to obtain legal authorization.
      4. Recording the voice for the story created.
  • Illustrated Picture Dictionary
    1. How to participate in the Illustrated Picture Dictionary project:On the Task assigned by teacher, upload your Illustrated Picture Dictionary project based on what you have learned, and then register for the Selection of Projects.。
    2. Specifications of project
      1. Each tag must contain English words, and your native language translations.
      2. Number of words:at least 7 and at most 15.
      3. Photographs taken by yourself must be used.
      4. After you upload the photos, follow the steps to make Illustrated Picture Dictionary project.
  • Dialogue Video
    1. How to participate in the Dialogue Video project:On the Task assigned by teacher, upload your Dialogue Video project based on what you have learned, and then register for the Selection of Projects.
    2. Specifications of project
      1. The content must be original works with your native language and English subtitles.
      2. Project format:mp4 file
      3. Resolution of the project:1920*1080
      4. Project duration:1-2 minutes
      5. It is necessary to go to the location assigned by teachers to film a dialogue video in English to introduce the location.
      6. If you want to use the music material, you must use the music authorized by "Creative Commons, creativecommons.org.tw" (download and use according to the authorization method and labeling method of the project) or other legally authorized music.
  • Video Voice-Over
    1. How to participate in the Video Voice-Over project:On the Task assigned by teacher, upload your video voice-over project based on what you have learned, and then register for the Selection of Projects.
    2. Specifications of project:Must be based on original video content, original English scripts or self-made scripts for video voice-over.

7. Evaluation Criteria and Instructions

The judges will select the submitted projects, and the awards as following.

9. Notice for Contestants

  1. Creation registration shall be deemed as participation in the event regulations and competition regulations of this event. In case of violation, the organizer will not immediately notify and cancel the relevant participation in this event.
  2. The creators shall guarantee his or her full all copyright to their projects, and there is no plagiarism. When making use of the projects or rights of others, the creator should obtain the consent or authorization of the copyright owner. If the projects are untruthful or infringed on the copyrights or any right of others, the relevant legal responsibilities and losses shall be the responsibility and compensation of the creators themselves, which has nothing to do with the organizer.
  3. Plagiarism and counterfeiting of the projects selected for registration are strictly prohibited. After verification, the organizer may cancel the qualification to participate in this event without notice. For those who have already received the prizes, the organizer may claim the issued prizes after the competition.
  4. The projects submitted for selection shall not contain defamatory, insulting, threatening, offensive, indecent, obscene, untruthful, violating public order or good customs or other illegal text or pictures. The organizer is able to cancel the qualification to participate in this activity without notice.
  5. After the application is completed, no return or request for modification will be accepted. The creators of the projects are asked to ensure the submission process by themselves. If the submission process cannot be completed due to network or force majeure factors, the creator is responsible for it, and the organizer is not responsible for compensation.
  6. For the winning and selected projects, the organizer has the right to publish their projects publicly on the official platform, including but not limited to the portal website, FB, IG and other social media, and uploading to the shared area of this platform. Only before uploading to the shared area, the author needs to agree and cooperate with the organizer to revise the content before uploading.
  7. The organizer is not responsible for any costs and expenses incurred in the process of participating in this activity.
  8. If there are any unmentioned matters in this brochure, it can be supplemented or amended at any time, and the latest announcement will be the main thing; the organizer has the right to decide to cancel, terminate, revise or suspend this activity, and reserves the right to revise the method of this activity, explain and make changes.
